Our reputation is to provide academic excellence via a balanced international curriculum, while enabling our students to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners.
Our curriculum in the lower years (KS3) is modelled on the English National Curriculum, after which students then study their choice of subjects at (I)GCSE and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in our Sixth Form. Our students annually achieve results well above UK and global averages, and are highly successful in their applications to leading universities in the UK, USA, Canada and Asia.
Students at BSJ are exceptionally active in exploring and developing their individual passions and talents. We have an expansive programme of opportunities that encompass: sports, drama, music, art, technology, leadership, charity and community service.
The English faculty comprises of ten full time teachers. The faculty is well-resourced with a wide range of software/hardware and textbooks. Academic results throughout the school in English are excellent. At KS3, the English Faculty works closely with aspects of the KS3 strategy, although response to literary texts remains at the heart of the curriculum. Students study for IGCSEs in English Language and English Literature following the Cambridge International Examinations. Occasionally students study English as an Additional Language taught by EAL specialists, gaining a GCSE qualification in EAL. Both English Literature and English Language/Literature are taught at Standard and Higher Level IB and results at BSJ are significantly above world averages.
Applications are invited from experienced and dynamic teachers who hold a relevant degree and work experience with experience and a clear understanding of teaching at Key Stage 3, I/GCSE and IB level.
